Hello world
Hey, I’m Riccardo Wolf — developer / engineer from Austria and one half of the duo behind ASKMYNET. This post is pinned on purpose: it’s the entry point. Who I am, what I can do and what you’ll find here.
A bit about me
It all started with my dad putting games in front of me at a very young age — ever since I’ve been trying to (not) break software while bashing my head against the screen until the pixels move the way I want. That’s exactly how I actually got into software: (trying to) create Morrowind mods, editing Warcraft 3 custom maps, tinkering with Dota 2 custom games and asking very interesting questions on StackOverflow / various modding forums. Turns out this translates pretty well to real software engineering / development — it’s basically the same; you just gotta act like you know what you’re doing and know where to ask to get the answers you need :) .
On paper I’m a mechatronics and electrical engineer. Finished mechatronics at HTL Weiz with honors then moved into the higher electrical engineering department and graduated there with honors too; got my Matura with honors as well. So I also know my way around motors, sensors and control loops — not just web servers and UIs (even though I really like not having to deal with hardware). Picked up 1st place at the Magna Scholarship of Excellence along the way and wrote my diploma thesis on AI right when the whole world discovered ChatGPT — I’ve been an AI enthusiast since the text-davinci models way back in 2017 and that’s long before ChatGPT made the rest of the world one.
What I can do
The honest skill list — stuff I’ve used / done professionally:
Web & Frontend
- Design and develop custom websites with React, JS, PHP, Wordpress
- Basic DNS management for various domains
Cloud & DevOps
- AWS, serverless-first: Lambda, API Gateway, S3, Aurora/RDS and so on…
- Docker + ECS for Heavy Compute (Linux and Windows containers), Infrastructure as Code with CloudFormation
- CI/CD with Jenkins on Kubernetes, Bash & PowerShell automation
Python & backend engineering
- Python is my main backend language — APIs, data plumbing, AI glue
AI integration
- LLM APIs, Embeddings + Vector Search, RAG setups
The engineering side
- Mechatronics & electrical engineering background: no fear of hardware, control loops or things that spark look here
The hobby corner
- Trying to create AGI…
- Wannabe Unity game dev
- Trying out tech I find interesting, mostly AI stuff
- NixOS enthusiast
What this blog is for
Notes from real projects: stuff I built, stuff that broke and stuff someone should’ve told me earlier.
